*** PRESS RELEASE ***
August 4, 2023
Grant Award: FY2022 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) of $809,548.39 in Federal funding
Sodus Township Fire Department, Benton Charter Township Fire Department, and Saint Joseph Charter Township Fire Department Station I and II are excited and pleased to be receiving the opportunity in this shared FEMA grant award.
“Sodus is a small rural community. Our mission as a department is to support this community and the surrounding communities with fire suppression, prevention, and any other support a community may need.” said Chief Everett Steinke, Sodus Township Fire Department. “This grant will allow the department to upgrade our outdated cascade system to a compressor and modern fill station. The grant will also provide funding for upgrading to lightweight air packs.” He said, “Not only are the packs light weight and efficient, but they are compatible with our neighboring departments for training and mutual aid; substantially improving the capabilities of our fire fighters in fire suppression situations.”
Chief Steinke said, “Our sincerest gratitude to everyone involved in making this grant possible, including U.S Senator Debbie Stabenow and U.S. Senator Gary Peters and their staff.”
